Forces Children Scotland will deliver an interactive workshop at the Children in Scotland Annual Conference in November, to present a new continual professional development resource co-created with children and young people from armed forces and veteran families.

Titled ‘What’s Next? Reconnect>Reflect>Reimagine’, the conference will provide delegates an opportunity to meet, reconnect, and reflect on how the Covid-19 Pandemic has impacted children and families, and to discuss how we can do things differently in the coming years, based on creative ideas and best practice.

Our workshop will provide delegates an opportunity to learn from our team, as well as from children and young people from armed forces and veteran families, who worked together throughout the pandemic to co-deliver the Forces Life Project, which received funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and ABF: The Soldier’s Charity.

Delegates will learn how the working group utilised a combination of online sessions and residential activities to work with creative partners to creatively express their lived experiences of life in armed forces and veteran families through a board game and comic book to help civilian audiences better understand the lives they lead.

Better still, our workshop attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a breakout session to play the Forces Life Board Game and read our accompanying comic book. We will also host a short Q&A session at the end to provide further insight and information.

Who should consider attending our workshop

Our workshop is perfect for educators and professionals who come into contact with children and young people from armed forces and veteran families in schools, youth work, or community settings across Scotland. Our Forces Life Board Game and Comic Book provide an exciting new resource to expand continual professional development as well as help to creatively open discussions with their civilian peers.

Our workshop learning outcomes

  1. Learn how co-production is applied to working directly with children & young people from armed forces & veteran families.
  2. Learn more about our Forces Life board game/comic book and how educators & professionals can apply it within school & community settings.
  3. Learn about the unique challenges faced by children & young people from armed forces & veteran families with regards to pursuing positive futures.

Children in Scotland’s Annual Conference will take place on 08/09 November 2022 at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh. Hybrid options are also available.
