The British Citizen Youth Award (BCyA) will honour twenty-one young people from across the UK who have made a positive impact on their communities and wider society. All of whom have shown kindness and commitment to a multitude of causes, raising funds and awareness, and are all dedicated to making a difference.
This year’s inspirational young people will be presented with their Medals of Honour at The Palace of Westminster on 17 October 2024 and encouraged to use the post-nominals ‘BCyA’, as a legacy of their achievements and endeavours.
The medals are presented to a small number of exceptional young individuals annually and widely viewed as the nation’s way of recognising extraordinary young people for exceptional endeavour and commitment to helping others.
Isabella (Izzy) will receive her medal in recognition of her exceptional work co-producing projects, services, and campaigns with Forces children Scotland.
Isabella made an invaluable contribution to our Tornado of Change Project that creatively expressed what it feels like when a parent leaves the armed forces, through three short video themes: feeling lost and alone in a new place, feeling powerless in the face of change, and feeling brave in the face of change.
Isabella has also supported the co-production of our Your Mind Matters Digital Hub which provides tailored mental health and wellbeing advice information and resources for over 13,000 peers from armed forces communities across Scotland and beyond, as well as for teachers and wider professionals supporting this community.
Serving as a role model for peers across Scotland, Isabella got involved in a recent campaign to describe how getting involved in our youth participation activities can build confidence, develop new skills, and make new friends to encourage greater numbers of peers to find out more about Forces Children Scotland.

It is both heartening and uplifting to know that so many young people are consciously contributing to causes such as the environment, climate change, education, and creating awareness and fundraising for hospitals, medical research, and charities.
The youth of today are truly the leaders of tomorrow and we are humbled that Dame Mary, who is also the founder of Specsavers, has put her name to the prestigious group accolade enabling the BCyA to broaden its recognition of young people in society”.
