Military Children’s Charity Launches National Mascot Design Competition

Budding young artists from armed forces communities are encouraged to pick up paintbrushes, pencils, and crayons to participate in a nationwide competition to design a mascot for the charity, Forces Children Scotland.

Having worked directly with children and young people to launch a vibrant rebrand for the charity, the competition puts creative control back into the hands of this community.

The creative brief is simple for aspiring artists – to create something to help civilian friends, educators, and professionals to better understand their identity as a forces child.

Children and young people are encouraged to think about military themes and colours, and to consider how forces life can prove different compared to civilian friends.

Young people can choose a creative medium that best brings their ideas to life. The charity has established three age categories for children and young people to submit their designs, and prizes will be awarded to the winners for each category.

The overall winning design will feature on the charity’s website, and resources, as well as a focal point for wider promotional campaigns.

Submissions close on Monday 29 April 2024, to coincide with the end of the charity’s Month of the Military Child campaign.

Laura Falconer, Forces Children Scotland’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are delighted to launch a campaign to encourage young artists from armed forces communities across Scotland to design a mascot for our charity.

“Forces Children Scotland puts the lived experience of children from this community at the heart of everything it does, so it’s very exciting to hand creative control into their hands to come up with something that represents what it means to be a forces child today.”
