Education Support News

Last month, Judith (our Learning and Development Worker) and Nina (our Participation Manager) were out on the road delivering our fully accredited Early Years Module — accredited by CPD UK and co‑produced with parents, practitioners across Scotland, and our brilliant partners at Early Years Scotland.

With funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, Forces Children Scotland and Early Years Scotland have been working alongside Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) settings and parents to deepen understanding of the lived experiences of Armed Forces families. Together, we’ve created training and practical resources designed especially for nursery staff and childminders supporting children from Armed Forces families across Scotland.

Recently, we’ve had the pleasure of working with:

  • The Colinton Early Years staff team in Edinburgh
  • Early years practitioners from Stepping Stones Nursery, St Joseph’s Family Learning Centre, and Garelochhead Nursery in Helensburgh

Judith, Mrs. Yvonne Moore (Head Teacher at Colinton Primary School), Nina and Hame’ish

Our mascot Hame’ish joined the fun, helping us share a range of new resources, including our forthcoming Top Tips for Practitioners and Parents handout and our Separation and Deployment Guidance.

We also promoted the fantastic storybooks and resources created by Professor Marg Rogers, which support key experiences such as mobility and separation.

A huge thank‑you to all the staff who took part — there was so much valuable reflection, discussion, and learning… and Hame’ish had a brilliant time too!
