Moving somewhere new is a big deal, and for children and young people from Armed Forces families, it can happen often.
Two projects led by young people this year are making those moves a little easier, both made possible with funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
At our summer residential in July, young people from Forces families teamed up with YoungScot to talk about what it’s like growing up in a Forces family in Scotland. Then they turned those conversations into content for other young people going through the same thing.
You can now find it all in the Forces Corner, a new space on the Young Scot website. It covers what to know before moving to Scotland, how to use the Young Scot National Entitlement Card (including free bus travel if you’re under 22), making new friends, staying in touch with old ones, and where to find support. You’ll also find reels taken at the 2026 summer resi. 🎥
Young people have also been hard at work on Map My Move, a new project to help other children and young people from Armed Forces families settle in when they move to, or within, Scotland.
Together, we’re creating interactive, tri-service maps for Helensburgh, Leuchars and Moray, full of the things that actually help when you’re new (like where to find the best ice cream!). Sessions have already taken place in Fife and Helensburgh, where young people shared ideas and took photos and videos from their favourite locations.
