Armed Forces Children and Young People Conversations: Strengths, Challenges, and Support Strategies within Scottish Education

Join us for an insightful webinar exploring the unique educational experiences of children from Armed Forces families in Scotland. This session brings together school leaders and local authority representatives who will share their experiences supporting this amazing group of young people.

Key speakers include Priyanka Chard (Education Support Officer, Moray Council), Robyn Pattison (Policy and Parliamentary Worker, Forces Children Scotland), Lou Kinnear (Education and Learning, Highland Council), Yvonne Moore (Headteacher, Edinburgh Council), and Linda Candlish (Depute Head, Argyll and Bute Council).

Our panel will share practical approaches that have proven effective in their schools and local authorities. Discover how education settings across Scotland are creating inclusive environments that recognise and celebrate the adaptability of Armed Forces children while addressing their specific needs. The webinar will explore:

  • Current Scottish educational policy frameworks supporting Armed Forces Children
  • Strengths these children bring to educational settings
  • Challenges faced during transitions and deployment periods
  • Successful interventions and support strategies

The event is organised in a conversational style where the Chair will engage our speakers in a dialogue to delve into the main issues surrounding children and young people within the armed forces community and their educational journey. The audience will then have the opportunity to contribute their views and experiences and pose questions to the speakers.

This free event is for anyone working with children and young people from an armed forces background. Please share with colleagues and other partner organisations that may wish to attend.

Please note that this event will take place on Microsoft Teams and will be recorded.
