Understanding the child’s experience of deployment and separation

Forces Children Scotland invites educators and professionals to attend a free online webinar to introduce the experiences and views of children and young people from armed forces and veteran families communities.

This accredited co-learning event explores how children from the armed forces community might experience separation from their parents, such as in the context of deployment and weekending. This session will introduce deployment and separation from the perspectives of children and young people from Armed Forces families. The co-learning space will provide opportunities for participants to learn from each other and to reflect on the information provided by young people.

Who is this event for?

Anyone with an interest in this subject is invited to join us at this learning session. However, we believe this will be most relevant for those who work with children and young people from this community. The session will be a medium for attendees to engage with this topic and discuss what it means for their practice.

Key Learning

• Introduction to key concepts of deployment and weekending.
• Consideration of separation from parents from a child rights perspective.
• Exploration of the deployment cycle from the child’s perspective.
• Identification of practical solutions that may help professionals support young carers from armed forces families.

On completion of the webinar, there is an opportunity to give feedback and a certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.
