Do you teach pupils from armed forces & veteran families?

Explore their lived experience to enhance understanding and practice to meet their unique education and learning support needs.

About this event

Children and young people tell us that during times of parental deployment, they can experience anxiety and stress which can impact their concentration at school. Similarly, we know that moving schools, communities or countries can be disruptive to a child’s education and we have worked with young people to understand what can help during this experience.

We hope that by amplifying children and young people’s views and experiences we can help you create a positive educational space during such times. The session will be interactive, providing space to engage in discussions, learn expertise from one another and ask questions.

Who is this event for?

Anyone with an interest in this subject is invited to join us at this learning session. However, we believe this will be most relevant for those who work with children and young people from Armed Forces and Veteran families in the education context. This session will be a medium for attendees to engage with this topic and discuss what it means for their practice.

Key Learning

  • Introduction to the lived experiences of children and young people from Armed Forces and Veteran families. Topics will include experiences during parental deployment and when they move schools and communities.
  • Identification of key considerations when working with this community during times of parental deployment and transitions.
  • Providing space for discussions to learn from other professionals about how best to support children and young people.

We hope to see you in May!
