Although incorporation of the UNCRC has been delayed by intervention from the UK Supreme Court, preparation for implementing this future law is well underway.
It is imperative we understand what this means for children and young people from armed forces and veteran families, especially considering their potential experience of highly mobile childhoods, disruption to education and periodic separation from deployed parents.
This session will introduce the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, discuss the context of children’s rights in Scotland including the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill and explore what this means for children and young people from armed forces and veteran families.
We will also be joined by a representative of the Scottish Government who will provide an update on the incorporation process and help us discuss issues pertinent to the lives of this community.
The session will run via Zoom and attendees can choose to join us at either 1pm-2.30pm or 6pm-7.30pm on the day. We’ll get in touch to confirm, once you have signed up.
Anyone with an interest in this subject is invited to join us at this learning session. However, we believe this will be most relevant for those who work with children and young people from this community or those who are involved in policymaking. The session will be a medium for attendees to engage with this topic and discuss what it means for their practice.
We hope to welcome you to our rights training this May.
