Abigail will lead projects and campaigns in the north of Scotland which amplify lived experience of young people from armed forces and veteran families, which provide opportunities to forge new friendships, build confidence and develop new skills.
We caught up with Abigail earlier this week to learn more about the knowledge, skills, and experiences she brings to the role.
“I applied for this role of Youth Participation Worker with Forces Children Scotland because I understand the value of young people being heard and the importance of giving them opportunity to get involved in bringing about positive changes in their lives.
“I have been impressed with how this charity seeks to provide not only direct contact and support for young people in armed forces and veteran families, but also its desire to take the challenges and feedback given seriously, seeking to implement change in various ways and forums for the young people.”
“I have been involved in youth work for many years in various capacities and have helped support young people with varying ages and backgrounds, in school settings, 1-2-1 support, small groups, and residentials.
“I have enjoyed having the opportunity to work alongside young people, encouraging, and enabling them to bring about positive changes in their lives, and I believe the skills gained through these experiences will be valuable for this role in youth participation at Forces Children Scotland.
“I have a degree in Theology and a particular interest in the holistic pastoral care of young people, encouraging and promoting health in body and mind. Within this role I hope to use the experiences gained and passions I have, to give a voice to Forces young people and help enable them to be a key part of change and improvement in various challenges they are presented with.”
“I am particularly looking forward to getting to know the young people in my specific area and working alongside them to share their experiences and get involved with our projects. I am passionate about giving young people a voice to speak, be heard and taken seriously, and I look forward to being part of their journey and participation within Forces Children Scotland.”
