School and Education

Ruby Boots

Starting a new school can bring lots of different feelings.

You might feel excited, nervous, worried, curious, or even all of these at once.

The most important thing to remember is: You don’t have to know everything on your first day.

What might be different?

Every school is unique, so you might notice things like:

  • 🎒 Different uniforms
  • ⏰ A different timetable
  • 📖 New subjects or topics
  • 🏫 A bigger or smaller school
  • 🍎 Different lunch routines
  • ⚽ Different clubs and activities
  • 📚 New ways of learning

If you’re moving between different parts of the UK, you might even notice that some subjects are taught in a different order or have different names.

That’s completely normal!

Your guide to moving between Scotland and England

This guide helps you work out what all the different names mean, where your year group fits and what might feel different when you start your new school.
