In April, we introduced you to Sergeant Scott Urban, who shared why he chose to run the Edinburgh Half Marathon: From Forces child to father: Why I’m running for Forces Children Scotland.
Congratulations to Scott, who completed the Half Marathon on Sunday and successfully raised almost £1,000 for the babies, children and young people we support!

Here are Scott’s reflections following the race.
Taking on the Edinburgh Half Marathon was never just about the distance for me. It was about purpose.
Representing Forces Children Scotland has been a genuine privilege, one that I carried with me through every mile of training and every step on race day. Knowing what the charity stands for, and who it supports, gave this challenge a meaning far beyond a finish line.
There were moments during the run where it got tough. Fatigue set in, the miles felt longer, and the pace became harder to hold. But in those moments, I found strength in something bigger than myself. I thought about the shared experiences that connect so many of us, the challenges that come with military life, the resilience it builds, and the unseen struggles that families and children often carry.
That perspective kept me moving forward.
Every early morning training run, every mile in the rain, every moment of doubt, it was all worth it. Because this wasn’t just about completing a race! it was about standing in support of a community that understands perseverance in its truest form.
Running for Forces Children Scotland reminded me that even when things feel difficult, you’re never really running alone.
Crossing that finish line was a proud moment, but not because of the time on the clock, even though I was secretly gutted to not make it in under 2 hours, It was because of what it represented, commitment, resilience, and the opportunity to give something back.
Thank you to everyone who supported, donated, and encouraged me along the way. Your backing made every step count.
And to Forces Children Scotland thank you for the work you do, and for allowing me to represent you. It truly meant a great deal.
This is one I’ll carry with me for a long time.
